IGN have released a very detailed article about the history of Hollow Knight. They explained that Hollow Knight originally was a Kickstarter campaign back in 2014, and that they were able to play a demo of Hollow Knight Silksong in 2019. However, in 2023 one of the Directors of the game explained that they have to delay it because it's a lot bigger in scope than they originally planned.
