FFXIV Grand Company Transfer Guide

How to switch your allegiance and the benefits of serving multiple Grand Companies.

While most players stick with their initial Grand Company (GC), there are many rewards, such as unique minions, chocobo bardings, and achievement items, that can only be obtained by ranking up in other GCs.

Transfer Requirements

  • Rank: You must reach the rank of Second Lieutenant in your current GC before you can transfer.
  • Cost: 50,000 Gil (The first transfer ever is free) [00:01:45].
  • Cooldown: Once you switch, you cannot switch again for 15 days (Earth time) [00:02:41].

The Transfer Process

To transfer, visit the headquarters of the Grand Company you wish to join and speak with the Personnel Officer [00:01:17]:

  • Maelstrom: Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (Maelstrom Command)
  • Twin Adders: New Gridania (Adders' Nest)
  • Immortal Flames: Ul'dah - Steps of Nald (Hall of Flames)

Important Consequences

Gear & Items: You cannot equip or use glamour items issued by your previous Grand Company while serving a new one [00:01:52].
  • Seals: Your seals from your previous GC are not lost, but they are hidden and cannot be spent until you return to that GC [00:03:38].
  • Ranks: You start at the lowest rank (Private Third Class) in the new GC and must rank up from scratch [00:03:51].
  • Hunting Log: You unlock a new Hunting Log specific to the new GC [00:03:24].
  • PvP: Your PvP rank and experience are tied to your GC. While they are retained, you start at rank 0 in the new GC [00:02:02].
  • Mounts & Bardings: Grand Company specific chocobo bardings cannot be used while in a different GC [00:04:57].

Why Switch?

Many players switch to collect all unique items [00:00:11]:

  • Minions: GC Hatchlings and specific achievement minions like the Mammoth [00:06:08].
  • Bardings: Each city-state has unique chocobo armor.
  • Emotes: Your GC-specific salute will change to match your current allegiance [00:07:50].
