There was speculation that the game might be in development by Warhorse Studios, the developer behind Kingdom Come Deliverance, and it's possible that they are making one, but the main Lord of the Rings game in question that has received more than $100 million in funding from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, apparently is being developed by Crystal Dynamics, the developer of the current Tomb Raider games. However, IGN noted that because we're about to get to the 01 Apr 2026, there is strong hope that it's not an April Fool's Day prank.
