In a long post on LinkedIn, the co founder of Naughty Dog, Andrew Gavin, has explained why Naughty Dog was sold to PlayStation back in 2001. He explained that at the time the cost of developing games was spiraling out of control and some games these days can cost hundreds of millions of dollars to develop. In his opinion, a lot of publishers have got leverage over developers because they have the budget to support the development of games, which developers will not necessarily have.
