The developers of Metroid Prime 4 Beyond had an interview with Famitsu. During the interview they spoke about the open world design and that is considered by a lot of gamers to be very outdated because of the lengthy development time. Nintendo did want to experiment with the open world mechanics of the game, but the developers were worried that it would result in a longer development time and they didn't want to delay the game anymore.
