FIFA Doubling License Fee to EA

Hello guys and welcome to the Gaming News for 16 Oct 2021. FIFA have released a statement saying that more than one party must control all the rights to the FIFA brand. They are referring obviously to EA. EA has developed FIFA games annually for decades now, and the action they've taken against EA is basically now to double the license fee. What that means in money terms is that they want EA to pay them $1 billion every four years to retain exclusive rights to use the FIFA name. And the excuse that FIFA is using is that we want more people to develop more games with the FIFA brand. Now I personally feel that this has got nothing to do with wanting diversity in the gaming industry. I think purely is just a cash grab for the FIFA brand selling their name or franchising the FIFA name. I've got nothing to back that up. That's just my opinion. And maybe they feel that the brand is completely undervalued and if they could get a lot more money, so you will see in the future, we will see if EA say that they just will rename their games. And I think it's a double edged sword because EA football games have been known as FIFA for so long. Even if they rename it to something else. People are just going to refer to it as the latest FIFA game. It's difficult at this point, but we will see what happens in the future.

Steam Ban Crypto

The next bit of news for today is Steam has banned all games which involve NFT, Blockchain or cryptocurrency technology from their platform. I personally have never played any games involve any of those technologies, but it's interesting that Steam have taken this action and I wonder what repercussions that will have in the future because NFTs, Cryptocurrency and Blockchain are legal. What legal standpoint does Valve have to remove them from the platform? We will see where that goes in the future. I think that they're just inviting trouble onto themselves. Not unless they're worried about that technology being used to exploit players. Maybe, possibly. I don't know.

Official Squid Game Video Game

And then the last bit of news for today is the creators behind Squid Game are considering making an official video game for the TV show. A lot of spin off games have already happened. Like people have made Squid Game modes in Roblox, MrBeast is planning to make his $2 million Squid Game video on his main channel and stuff like that. It would be interesting if that becomes a thing. I feel that really, if there was an official Squid Game should have come out already or it should have come out with the TV show. I think the longer they leave it, the more difficult it's going to be. And like the hype for the show is going to already start descending. We will see again what happens in the future. A lot of big players are making really big moves, but I feel like none of them are effective, but that's just my opinion. Anyway, guys, that's it for the Gaming News for today. Thank you so much for all the new followers coming onto the feed. I see you every single day, and I will see you tomorrow. Thanks, guys. Bye bye.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have played hundreds of games in my life and have experienced truly amazing games. As time has passed and games continue to evolve, I want to share my gaming adventures with the world so you can improve your gaming experience too.

There are several gaming franchises I love experiencing a lot such as Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, God of War, Uncharted, Yakuza, Assassin's Creed, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, Xenoblade Chronicles and more.

In 1997 when I was 12 years old, a class mate of mine asked me, have you ever played Final Fantasy 7? I was like no, what’s that? He lent me his copy, and I remember on the first night I escaped Midgar after not being able to put it down for 5 to 6 hours even though it was a school night. Shortly after I finished the game and my gaming obsession was truly planted.

Towards the end of 1998 I played Zelda 64 Ocarina of Time. It was a revelation to me, given its combat, story telling, music and satisfying ending. It also gave a hint of what open world could look like given how “huge” Hyrule Field was, which was massive for the time. After nearly 25 years, Zelda 64 Ocarina of Time still sits at the top of my favourite games of all time list.

When I went to University during 2003 to 2007, it was the era of Half Life 2. I remember spending a portion of my student loan so I could get a gaming pc powerful enough to play it.

During that time I also started my adventures in MMOs including Final Fantasy 11 and World of Warcraft. It amazes me that they are still online to this day.

After leaving University, I like most people ended up in the 9 to 5 cycle, after a year of being stuck in the “no job without experience, no experience without a job”. At the time I was still living with my parents and I got distracted on girls for a while. My love for gaming never ended though, with it always being a fall back for me.

In 2013, I started my first YouTube channel, as a way to also document my time in the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn. I had seen some YouTubers who made really good videos. For me, at the time, it was a hobby to do on the evening and weekends, I never went into it thinking one day it would be my job. I would have made videos, even if it made no money at all.

After 10 years of multiple jobs, living a very miserable existence in the 9 to 5 cycle, it all abruptly ended in 2018 with my disability of severe anxiety preventing me from commuting to London to work any more.

During the Pandemic, a lot of people were losing their jobs, and there was a lot more time to produce videos and play games. While growing as a content creator, I noticed my Instagram page had little to no content. One day I picked up my phone and recorded a video talking about gaming as it was my favourite hobby.

As I have now played hundreds of games and my passion has evolved for the last 30 years, I see my love for gaming lasting until the day I die. Games have made me laugh, made me cry, and everything in between. The recent price increases have definitely dampened gaming for most gamers, but I am in a privileged position as an Independent Gaming Journalist to receive a lot of games for free from developers and publishers to review.

I hope I can always bring the highest quality Gaming News every day, in digestible 1 to 1.5 minute summaries, to share the passion I have always had for it.

There is a lot more to my gaming history than what I've written above and if you want to talk to me about it feel free to pop by my Twitch Live Stream sometime and say hello!
