Video Transcript

Riot Games, who is the company behind League of Legends and VALORANT and more, have been ordered to pay $100 million in settlement over gender discrimination. I spotted this article on IGN and it is also being reported basically everywhere where they have to pay $80 million to compensate workers and pay for penalties. And they're $20 million to pay for legal fees and expenses as well. It still has to be formally approved by a court that this is an appropriate settlement amount. Also as well this case was brought by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (and others). You might be wondering why you've heard that name recently is because they are also right now going after Activision Blizzard. We will see if this has any sort of influence on the Activision Blizzard situation because I would argue that that case potentially is bigger. I guess we'll see. Some people have reacted to this happily, they say this it's good that this is done. But some people are still very angry about this saying that this is not enough because basically they have previously made an offer over this and they offered a 10th of what they are being ordered to pay now. Basically, they tried to get away with compensating a lot less in the past, and it's good that it's been increased. But at the same time, some people's lives were really hurt by this and there's no money amount ever that can compensate for that. When people go to work, they deserve to be treated with respect and not be subjugated in any way. We will see what happens with this in the future and the more of these lawsuits happen, I think the better because it will really set a firm precedent that we don't want this in the gaming industry and it has no place. It shouldn't just be in the gaming industry, to be honest, I think this is a global issue. It should be for all companies. But as we are gamers, we are obviously interested, especially in game companies, where these all things happen.
