CD Projekt Red Hires Modders, Tencent Shares Fall, DrLupo Joins YouTube Gaming | Gaming News

Tencent Shares Fall

Hello, guys, and welcome to the Gaming News for 31 Aug 2021. After the announcement yesterday, on the crack down on under 18 gamers in China, shares in the biggest gaming companies in China also felt which you can understand why. Tencent who is the biggest gaming company in China, publisher behind such massive games as PUBG Mobile, their shares fell 11% yesterday after the news. But it's part of a wider range of actions being taken by the Beijing and Chinese authorities to combat certain things against education generally. It's not just only targeting gaming. For example, they have forced a lot of companies which provide, for example, after school tutoring to become nonprofit and things like that. But I'm not really going to delve into that because that goes outside the scope of gaming news. But just so you know that again, these announcements do have consequences. And the unfortunate side is we're not going to really see the true impact of these measures for like 10, 15, 20 years when the kids now who were targeted by it grow up and are educated and lead future companies. Let's just wait 20 years and see.

CD Projekt Red Hires Modders

The next bit of news for today is CD Projekt Red have hired a group of modders to help with the back end of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. The group of modders are run together in a company called Yig Soft. And basically, it's nice that CD Projekt Red is working closely with effectively true fans of the games. These people care about the game so much that they're prepared to mod it, fix it, and so on. They're trying to bring the expertise in house, which makes perfect sense because we've seen it time and time again when developers, for example, recreate old games in modern engines because they just have such a passion for the games that they're playing. I would say good for CD Projekt Red. I'm hoping to see great work. I personally I'm still waiting to play Cyberpunk 2077 for reasons I've explained many times before, but we will see what happens.

DrLupo Joins YouTube Gaming

And then the last bit of news for today is DrLupo, who was one of the biggest Twitch streamers, has now signed an exclusive streaming deal with YouTube Gaming. He will be moving over to YouTube Gaming, I think literally from today. Back in 2019, he did actually have an exclusive streaming deal with Twitch, but I guess it's expired since then and he has released reasons as to why, but I don't really want to get into it. It's just a case of he's been offered a good deal. He's massive on Twitch, but he's also big on YouTube. On YouTube, he has like 1.7 million subscribers already. Good for him. And these exclusivity deals, they don't last forever. At the moment, it seems like people are only being signed for one or two years maximum. There's nothing to stop him eventually coming back to the Twitch in the future, if he wishes. But we'll see. For now, he's going to be on YouTube Gaming. I do, like DrLupo, because of the charity work has done. He has raised millions for charities and with the help of so many other people. And I like public figures like that, that use their influence for good. Anyway, guys, that's it for the Gaming News for today. And I will see you tomorrow. Thanks, guys. Bye bye.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have played hundreds of games in my life and have experienced truly amazing games. As time has passed and games continue to evolve, I want to share my gaming adventures with the world so you can improve your gaming experience too.

There are several gaming franchises I love experiencing a lot such as Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, God of War, Uncharted, Yakuza, Assassin's Creed, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, Xenoblade Chronicles and more.

In 1997 when I was 12 years old, a class mate of mine asked me, have you ever played Final Fantasy 7? I was like no, what’s that? He lent me his copy, and I remember on the first night I escaped Midgar after not being able to put it down for 5 to 6 hours even though it was a school night. Shortly after I finished the game and my gaming obsession was truly planted.

Towards the end of 1998 I played Zelda 64 Ocarina of Time. It was a revelation to me, given its combat, story telling, music and satisfying ending. It also gave a hint of what open world could look like given how “huge” Hyrule Field was, which was massive for the time. After nearly 25 years, Zelda 64 Ocarina of Time still sits at the top of my favourite games of all time list.

When I went to University during 2003 to 2007, it was the era of Half Life 2. I remember spending a portion of my student loan so I could get a gaming pc powerful enough to play it.

During that time I also started my adventures in MMOs including Final Fantasy 11 and World of Warcraft. It amazes me that they are still online to this day.

After leaving University, I like most people ended up in the 9 to 5 cycle, after a year of being stuck in the “no job without experience, no experience without a job”. At the time I was still living with my parents and I got distracted on girls for a while. My love for gaming never ended though, with it always being a fall back for me.

In 2013, I started my first YouTube channel, as a way to also document my time in the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn. I had seen some YouTubers who made really good videos. For me, at the time, it was a hobby to do on the evening and weekends, I never went into it thinking one day it would be my job. I would have made videos, even if it made no money at all.

After 10 years of multiple jobs, living a very miserable existence in the 9 to 5 cycle, it all abruptly ended in 2018 with my disability of severe anxiety preventing me from commuting to London to work any more.

During the Pandemic, a lot of people were losing their jobs, and there was a lot more time to produce videos and play games. While growing as a content creator, I noticed my Instagram page had little to no content. One day I picked up my phone and recorded a video talking about gaming as it was my favourite hobby.

As I have now played hundreds of games and my passion has evolved for the last 30 years, I see my love for gaming lasting until the day I die. Games have made me laugh, made me cry, and everything in between. The recent price increases have definitely dampened gaming for most gamers, but I am in a privileged position as an Independent Gaming Journalist to receive a lot of games for free from developers and publishers to review.

I hope I can always bring the highest quality Gaming News every day, in digestible 1 to 1.5 minute summaries, to share the passion I have always had for it.

There is a lot more to my gaming history than what I've written above and if you want to talk to me about it feel free to pop by my Twitch Live Stream sometime and say hello!
