XDefiant Closed Beta
XDefiant, which is the free to play shooter from Ubisoft, is in closed beta until the 23 Apr 2023. The closed beta is aimed at testing the crossplay between PC, PlayStation and Xbox. The game will allow you to choose factions from several of the popular Ubisoft franchises. If you're interested, be sure to head over to the XDefiant website to sign up for a chance to get into the beta.
SEGA Acquiring Angry Birds Maker
And the next bit of news for today is according to an article on the Wall Street Journal, SEGA is looking to acquire the creator of Angry Birds, Rovio, for an estimated $1 billion. Previously, a takeover deal worth $800 million fell through and now SEGA has stepped in. We will see if this deal goes through and what it will do for the future of SEGA.
US Senator PlayStation Open Letter
The last bit of news for today is US Senator Kevin Cramer has sent an open letter to PlayStation voicing concerns about the anticompetitive practices of the company. It includes and is not limited to the acquisition of Bungie, the opposition to Xbox's takeover of Activision Blizzard, the 98% market share in Japan, and also the exclusivity deals where PlayStation are paying developers not to have games on other platforms. We will see if anything constructive comes out of this open letter.
