It consists of several large floating islands connected by teleporters. Because of this layout, you cannot gather all currents immediately upon arrival; you must unlock the teleporters via the Main Scenario.
Update for Dawntrail (Patch 7.0): The number of field currents in Elpis has been reduced from 10 to 4. You will need to find these 4 field currents and complete 5 Quests to unlock flying.
Field Aether Current Locations (The "Green Orbs")
Use your Aether Compass (Collection Menu) to verify these locations. The currents are spread across the different islands.

The side quests in Elpis are unlocked sequentially as you gain access to new islands via the Main Scenario. If you can't reach a quest giver, continue your Main Scenario Quest.

Essential Tips for Elpis
- Use Teleporters: Elpis is a testing ground composed of disconnected islands. You cannot fly between them initially. Use the large teleporter pads (Propylaea) to travel between zones.
- Be Patient: This zone opens up slowly. Do not worry if you see a current on your compass 500 yalms away that you cannot reach; the story will eventually take you there.
