FFXIV Job Unlock: Monk Guide

Step-by-Step Instructions

The Monk is an advanced job that evolves from the Pugilist class. It was part of the original release of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

1. Level Pugilist to 30

Your first step is to level the **Pugilist** class to Level 30. Pugilist is a starting class available in Ul'dah.

2. Complete Class Quests

You must complete all your Pugilist class quests up to Level 30. The final class quest is titled "Return of the Holyfist". If you have not done this, the job quest will not appear.

3. Accept "Brother from Another Mother"

Once you have met the requirements, speak to Gagaruna in the Pugilists' Guild in Ul'dah - Steps of Nald (X: 9.4, Y: 10.2). He will direct you to the Historian Erik, beginning your Monk training.

You will be rewarded with:

Soul of the Monk (Job Stone)
Temple Attire Chest (Optional Gear)

4. Equip Your Soul Crystal

Don't forget to equip the Soul of the Monk in your equipment menu (bottom right slot). This changes your class from Pugilist to Monk and gives you access to Monk-specific skills like Rockbreaker and Shoulder Tackle.

Why Play Monk?

Monk is a high-speed Melee DPS job known for its rapid Greased Lightning (now integrated into traits) and fluid combo system. It requires constant movement to hit positionals (Rear/Flank) and has a unique "Masterful Blitz" mechanic that rewards executing specific combos perfectly. It is a very active and rewarding job to master.
