FFXIV Job Unlock: Red Mage Guide

A step-by-step guide to unlocking the Red Mage job in Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood.

Step-by-Step Instructions

The Red Mage is a Magical Ranged DPS job introduced in the Stormblood expansion. It starts immediately at Level 50 and does not require a base class.

1. Reach Level 50

You must reach **Level 50** with any other Disciple of War or Magic job. You also need to have purchased the Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker, or Dawntrail expansion on your account.

2. Locate the Distraught Lass

Teleport to the main Aetheryte in **Ul'dah**. Navigate to the **Steps of Thal** near the Sapphire Avenue Exchange. The NPC **Distraught Lass** is located at coordinates **X: 14.1, Y: 11.7**.

3. Accept "Taking the Red"

Speak to the NPC to accept the quest. You will soon meet X'rhun Tia, a master of the Red Magic, who will take you under his wing.

You will be rewarded with:

Soul of the Red Mage (Job Stone)
Mythrite Rapier (Level 50 Weapon)
Red Attire Coffer (Level 50 Gear)

4. Equip Your Soul Crystal

Equip the **Soul of the Red Mage** and the Rapier to officially switch your job. You can now open the Attire Coffer to get your starting gear.

Red Mage is known for its versatility and style. It utilizes the "Dualcast" mechanic, allowing every second spell to be cast instantly. This makes it highly mobile for a caster. It balances Black and White Mana to unleash a powerful melee combo finisher. Red Mage also brings "Verraise," making it the best job for resurrection utility in the game.
